Playing poker

and negotiating

are sometimes “played” the same way.

I recommend NOT doing that.

When playing poker,

we hide our cards & our strategy.

It can lead to a win,

maybe even a big win.

Let’s do the opposite when we negotiate.

I want you to reveal your “cards.”

It sounds counterintuitive,

and so uncomfortable.

We need to do it anyway.

Get started by revealing one [1] card.

Share the how, what and why for the card.

Challenge each other to find ways to satisfy the card.

Be explorers together.

Follow the same process for each card, yours and theirs.

Why does this work?

Because your “cards” reveal

what you really need and want,

and the result is a win for each of you.

It will feel uncomfortable.

It might feel like a mistake.

YET, it works.

Show your cards.
