Don't Hold It In

Writer's picture: Leslie NydickLeslie Nydick

Here’s the story:

Clients A and B had been silently stewing over misunderstandings for a year.

Client A was hurt by something B said and kept quiet to avoid tension.

Six months later, Client B felt the same way, and also stayed silent.

Finally, it all exploded.

Then, we met, I listened, and I helped them to hear each other.

They realized each had misunderstood the other’s intentions.

The takeaway?

When something bothers you, address it by asking questions, and talking about it.

Holding it in only lets negative feelings grow.

Lesson learned: don’t hold it in.
