Break Out of the Box

When we are at work, or in life,

we “hear” rules that don’t exist.

How do I know this?

A common source of conflict is the assumed restrictions.

Here is an example:

You receive an assignment for your team.

The team works efficiently and collaboratively.

You are excited to present the results.

Then, your manager conveys disappointment.

Why? You worked well as a team but without consulting with other teams.

Huh? You thought the assignment was only for your team.

You never thought of burdening other teams with inquiries.

You assumed a restriction that didn’t exist.

This happens often.

We hear rules that were never said.

Look for the assumed boundaries.

Evaluate those assumptions.

Question them.

And get rid of the unintended restrictions.

Break out of the box.
